Music Composition Assignment

with one comment

It’s time to branch out from learning our new instruments and apply some of our new knowledge and performance skills into the composition and creation of music.  Due Tuesday, February 10th will be your music composition assignment. You are to compose a melody of at least 8 measures. You may use one of the songs in the “Do It!” book as a reference, or even as a framework from which to compose. Your compositions should be single line (no harmony needed) and if you would like, can be performed to one of the accompaniment examples from the book.  The melody should be diatonic and have a good melodic contour. Finally, you will be expected to be able to perform your composition on your instrument.

Your work will be graded on the accuracy of its notation and you adherence to the principles listed above and discussed in class. Remember that improvisation can be the first step in composition. If you’re having trouble getting started, use that as a building block and then compose from there.  Good Luck!!!!
